Zope

Zope is a free and open source,  object oriented, Web Application Server, written in Python. Zope stands for "Z Object Publishing Environment", and was the first system using  object publishing methodology for the Web. Zope was onen of the first applications that helped put Python in the spotlight.

Zope is a web application framework that allows skilled developers to build complex applications. It is not a framework intended for beginning developers, although efforts such a Grok have reduced the learning curve.

Plone, the popular Content Management System, is based on Zope.

Zojax is one of the leading software development companies and has seven years of experience with both Plone and Zope. The Zope developers at Zojax have developed a large intranet/extranet for a large shipping company in New York City. This application was developed in Zope and Z3ext, which is a Zope framework developed by Zojax. The application can be either installed out of the box or customized to meet the needs of individual customers. It includes all the common features of an intranet or extranet including blogging, comment system, document repository, and internal departments.

Zojax can provide Zope consulting services, custom zope software development, or maintenance of an existing Zope site. For customers who wish to migrate from a current Zope application, Zojax programmers can rewrite the application in any Python based web framework such as Django, Turbogears, Pylons, or Pyramid.

For a non-profit organization in the U.S., Zojax migrated a slow performing Plone application to Zope3 and several years later to Django
